Yah... some of the regulars have either left or hardly visit.

Anyway, Adam, I see you're back in the motor city area, I know someone who sometimes hires contract programmers there, if you're interested.

Thanks for the offer. Right now I don't need anymore work Smile but I'll keep that in mind if I find myself jobless or want to be jobless Razz

By the sounds of the job situation I thought you were in Michigan... but since things are picking back up you couldn't be in Michigan Razz

Much better than have an angry goat behind John, I think?

Yah, Adam, I've heard things were pretty tough back home, I ran into some folks from Detroit doing steelwork for a couple of Rolling Stones concerts in El Paso, and Phoenix. They were talking about relocating out here.

I haven't attempted to live back there since around '98 when a rookie Oakland County cop confiscated my father's WWII knife from my vehicle and charged me with felony CCW, (a quarter mile from Wayne Co., where I lived). I would've been ineligible for a lot of the work I've done since then if I'd been convicted of a felony, (for the record, the judge didn't think I should've plea-bargained for the lesser charge, but I couldn't afford the lawyer fees to fight it)...

Anyway, peace all. Hope ya'll have a prosperous year. I'm hoping to finally be able to start paying some back taxes that are catching up to me this year. I'm thinking it's time to re-locate to a bigger city, maybe Phoenix... I'm tired of barely scraping by.

Maybe the goat won't be so angry once John's not behind him anymore. Confused

Is having OCD considered having a hobby?

I'm back East, (GA, FL, so far), for a bit, probably headin' up to Detroit to visit some friends and such in a few weeks.

Lookin' for work in Florida right now, what a different culture than New Mexico...

OK!!!! So, I've gone through several jobs since I joined PC. A bunch of meaningless jobs like fast food and stuff and I had a call center job that I kept for about nine months around the same time last year. Then I started working construction, and that just sucked. I'm now working at a business call center supporting big businesses with server access and stuff. I started playing the guitar a couple months ago and am having fun with it. Besides that, not a lot's up.

Right on, I've been learning to finger-pick the Ode to Joy bit by Beethoven today, heard it on a commercial last night, found some tab over at guitaretabdotcom under Beethoven-Ludwig, and after practicin' for awhile looked at a few folks playin' it the right way on youtube. I'm not nearly doin' it right. Then I just watched Jake playin' the ukulele, cuz he's just so damned good at it. youtubedotcom/watch?v=O9mEKMz2Pvo

Not havin' much luck findin' work, could be I'm not tryin' hard enough, among other things. My last full time gig was workin' as a stage hand/rigger for concerts, I don't think it really works on the resume, but it's what I've been doin' most recently.

What kind of programming were you studying when you were still gettin' after it? I pretty much have been messin' with simple excel VBA, and I'm really not all that good at it. I haven't really had any projects that have kept me interested in it enough to really get proficient.

Well, Origionally I used basic (duh lol) and then I learned some html (another duh) and then I went into a little bit of scripting and java, but after that my parents got me a book on C#. I read about 3/4 of the book but didn't learn a whole lot, it was mostly basics. I'm now wanting to learn C++ but haven't taken a lot of huge steps into it.

Now you guys got me wanting to pickup my guitar and play a bit. Odds are I'll skip that and plug in some Guitar Hero II. I'm lazy like that.

Think I'll skip the Guitar Hero I(I[I]), and play my Half Life 2 EP2. I'm not weird like that.

Mr. Franklin, I presume? Great to hear from ya, don't feel all alone in the flunking thing, at least you know how to program better'n I ever did.

So, I've been readin' about things like SEO, just cuz I'm startin' to wonder how come sirch (spam filter doesn't like the word) engines know so much about me, obviously they know my IP when I log in, cuz no matter where I am, they always return local results in my searches. And there's a software company here in town that's hirin' web peeps that know about SEO, so, what the hell. I'm not overly qualified, but I'm always tryin' to learn...

I haven't played githero, so don't know anything about it. I finally figured out how to post things on youtube, so actually have a coupla gitar licks on there, yaay for me, right?

Other than that, well, I'm back east, I don't know the proper way to say the word "chorale", (should be three syllables the way I've been pro-nouncing things the last seven years), and I'm no closer to being an efficient programmer than I was back in, oh, let's see, it must've been around 1999 when I first found VBE, and started pesterin' people to help me write my code for me. Dayum, I thought I was hot-shit, back then...

Anyways, just droppin' by to say hi. Good to see some folks comin' around again. I'm still hopin' to get up to Detroit, but things are kinda keepin' me thinkin' I might be better off either in the SW, the South, or even Florida. I have no good plan. Just tryin' to figure out what I'm good enough at and enjoy doin' enough to make a living at. I don't think I'll ever cut it as a programmer, so this'll just be a hobby someday when I figure out how to pay the bills and be a man, and all that.

Cheers, mates!
